What is the concept of Two Wings?

The resources of humanity are unequally distributed; especially girls and women in developing countries are disadvantaged. Education is the best way to restore the balance. Two Wings offers help to self-help by supporting schools and development projects in Africa, Asia and South-America, which particularly enable the education of girls. Thus training and education is being intensified and a foundation for social, economic and spiritual development is being laid.

Why does Two Wings particularly support the education of women? Why doesn't it help by giving food instead?

In many countries women do not have the same educational opportunities as men. The training and education of women is one way of naturally multiplying the knowledge of future generations. An educated mother brings knowledge to her family which helps her family to develop and advance.

Why are sponsors willing to help?

On the one hand, this is a way for the sponsors to individually contribute to the development of disadvantaged countries and on the other hand it is a good publicity for their companies.

How can I help Two Wings to find sponsors?

The higher the number of sponsors the greater the amount of training minutes donated through a "click”. We thank you for your help in finding sponsors. Just tell all your friends about Two Wings and make companies and decision-makers aware of the possibility to advertise with Two Wings in an ideal way and to help simultaneously.

How are projects worthy of sponsorship being selected?

It is a challenging task to select the most promising development projects. In the past, projects have been determined by decision makers in countries of the Northern hemisphere. These had been inadequate in improving the situation of disadvantaged people in the Southern hemisphere. The North-South Advisory Board composed of an equal number of representatives of the Northern and the Southern hemisphere, decides about the support of Two Wings projects. Projects worthy of sponsorship are recommended by the Development Learning Association, analysed and reviewed by the Board of the Two Wings Foundation, and subsequently decided upon by the North-South Advisory Board.

What percentage of the resources is being used to support the projects? Who benefits therefrom?

Almost all of the resources are being used to support the projects. Administrative expenses are kept very low through honorary activities and some of the sponsors who bear the costs separately. Only the people being trained benefit. In 1999 the administrative expenses of Two Wings amounted to only 3% of its income. The United Nations considers administrative expenses of 25% as reasonable.

What are the minimum costs to train a young woman and what does such a training look like?

The mentioned development project in India is an example of how girls and women are being trained. The training lasts for three months. Basic knowledge and skills in reading and writing, mathematics, hygiene and a project-oriented handcraft, such as sewing, are being taught. The costs for the training period of 3 months are Euro 400,00. Thus, a day of training costs Euro 4,44 (this amount includes, among others, accommodation, food, training materials, teachers and trainers). In addition, a training for instructors is being planned. The best participants are being selected from the basic courses.

Are only women being supported?

The main focus is on the training of girls and women but not exclusively. In many countries it is far more difficult for a girl to attend a school. Most parents can only afford to send one of their children to school and traditionally boys are the privileged ones. Two Wings believes that girls should be supported so that a balance is established. An educated woman brings her knowledge into the family. This is a way of naturally multiplying the knowledge of future generations. Such an education lays a basis for social, economic and spiritual development.

Why should I support Two Wings at all?

Most projects focus on helping with food. This help is felt immediately in these countries but it evaporates after a short time. Through the partnership between projects in the South, the Foundation and people in the North, it is guaranteed that these projects are adapted to the needs and circumstances of the recipient country.

Why should such distant projects be supported?

Today distance is no longer an issue. The world has become a global village and therefore events in the South directly or indirectly affect the North. Compared to the North, the South is economically disadvantaged. Therefore, the South has to be strengthened to create a balance. The resulting positive influences ultimately serve all of us and contribute to social justice and peace.

Why is education a way of helping? What sense does it make?

Education is the best way to re-establish the balance between the North and the South. Without doubt, this is the most effective kind of development work. The training and education of girls is one way of naturally multiplying the knowledge of future generations.

What do I gain?

The certainty that comes from making a contribution to the betterment of the world. The increase of the standard of living in the South guarantees the standard of living in the North. Last but not least, the investment into the Two Wings Stock Basket has, in the long run, higher revenue than the classic assessments, in spite of the possibility to donate the dividends.
