Improvement of living circumstances

The Republic of Chad lies in Central Africa and is - according to surface measurement - the fifth largest country in Africa. The UN development program UNDP places Chad in its Human Development Report 2003 at the eleventh position concerning the least developed nations of the world. The population on average has to cope with an amount of less than 3 USD a day. 73% of the population have no access to clean drinking water. The adult alphabetisation rate is especially low in Chad. It amounts to 53% for men and only 36% for women. A special project gives hope.

APRODEPIT, association for the promotion and development of pisciculture, is a recognized non-governmental organization with its seat in Sarh, a city at the Chari River in the south of the country. The paramount goal is the training of pisciculture entrepreneurs to improve the general living conditions.

Fish-breeding and preservation
The fish population of the region was reduced drastically and an important basis for living was lost to an essential part of the population. By digging up two ponds Mr. Kosse Malle (+), the founder of the organization, started with pisciculture in Bongor. Additionally to fish-breeding they specialized in fish preservation through desiccating and curing as well.

In the meantime 143 groups are already working in the region of Sarh – 98 male and 45 female groups. Forest-clearances, the endangering of wildlife, the lacking of scholastic education in the population and the discrimination of women have moved into the centre of interest more and more.
