Mankind is like a family – its resources though are unequally distributed. More than a billion people must live on less than a dollar a day – of those 70 % are women.

“Help to self-help” through educational projects according to the surveys of the most significant development organisations is regarded among the concepts of development cooperation with the most lasting effect.

Since 1996 Two Wings supports organizations where help is offered on the spot by qualified and trustworthy people. By this it is guaranteed that funds and aids actually reach the people concerned.

Concept of education by the UNESCO

Moreover the projects concerned should transcend mere knowledge transfer and the four pillar educational concept for the 21st century by the UNESCO should be reflected therein.

These are:

• learning to acquire knowledge
• learning to act
• learning for life
• learning to live together

Development with a lasting effect

With carefully selected educational projects in many parts of the world, the Two Wings Network has set itself the goal of advancing lasting development. Relating to this Two Wings attaches great value to the fact that the promoted projects are open to people of all races, ethnics and religions and no restrictions exist concerning this matter.

The name of the network is based on the metaphor of man and woman like the two wings of a flight apparatus. Only if both wings are equivalent, the full potential can be tapped in a lasting way. If one party is disadvantaged, one invariably falls. In this spirit, projects are especially promoted that give women the possibility, to take their lives into their own hands and change them – projects that impart help to self-help.

The Southern hemisphere as partner

The Two Wings Network energetically speaks out for the circumstance that in development cooperation the Southern hemisphere and their disadvantaged population stratum are not regarded merely as passive recipients, solicitants or almsmen.

Rather it should be development cooperation between equivalent partners. The TWO WINGS Network was founded by Bahia und Dr. Faramarz Ettehadieh in 1996.
